Downtown Murals

The colorful downtown murals are the design of renowned Cuban-American artist, Rolando Diaz.

The mural project was born out of Diaz’s love for children and his involvement with students at the FISD schools for the past several years. He approached TSAC (Trinity Star Arts Council) and asked if they would be willing to sponsor a public mural that would be dedicated to students in the community.

The mural on the Heritage Title Building, visible from Commerce Street, was designed and painted by Diaz.  The mural titled, DREAM, is a colorful abstract, dedicated to area youth.

The second mural, painted on the property on the southeast corner of the square owned by Danny and Carolyn Robertson of Rob’s Food Store, is titled, SPIRITED.  The original design projects energy from bold, spirited horses in vibrant colors.

On Thursday, June 5, 2020, the old safe containing a portion of SPIRITED was torn down.  The remainder of the mural remained until Friday, September 18, 2020, when it was painted over.

Area students and community members assisted Rolando in completing this lively addition to the Courthouse Square.
